Dr. Jonathan Keeve gives local woman a “new lease on life” with hip replacement

May 10, 2017

After years of suffering from debilitating hip pain due to severe hip dysplasia from a young age, Laurie Saling worked with Dr. Jonathan Keeve, joint replacement surgeon at Northwest Orthopaedic Specialists, to manage the pain in one of the “worst cases” of hip dysplasia Dr. Keeve had ever seen.

After years of managing the pain with conservative treatments, it came to a point where it affected most of Laurie's daily activities. When Dr. Keeve told her they had just started performing hip replacements in the outpatient setting, they both agreed this was the best next step. Using the most innovative techniques in anesthesia, pain management and surgical methods, Dr. Keeve performed an outpatient hip replacement on Saling’s left hip at The Orthopaedic Surgery Center in downtown Spokane. As result, the 50-year-old Spokane woman was in and out of the surgery center in a number of hours, instead of days like a traditional joint replacement procedure.

In comparison to traditional joint replacements, outpatient joint replacements are shown to:

  • Reduce costs
  • Reduce risk of infection
  • Increase patient satisfaction from recovering in the comfort of their own home
