Introducing Our New Orthopaedic Surgery Center in Spokane Valley

This new state-of-the-art facility will expand the availability of specialized orthopedic and interventional pain services to the Spokane Valley community. 

Expanding Our Services

Our new surgery center is AAAHC accredited and is dedicated to providing a comprehensive range of Interventional Pain Management procedures and WALANT (Wide Awake Local Anesthesia No Tourniquet) hand and wrist surgeries. These services, offered by our skilled physicians, aim to enhance patient care and accessibility.

Some of the interventional pain procedures available at the surgery center include:

  • Epidural steroid injections
  • Facet denervation
  • Spinal cord stimulation
  • Peripheral nerve blocks
  • Sympathetic nerve blocks

We are also pleased to offer IV sedation as an option for patients undergoing interventional pain procedures, helping to alleviate anxiety and discomfort, and ensuring a comfortable and stress-free experience.

Some of the WALANT hand and wrist surgeries offered include:

  • Carpal tunnel release
  • Trigger finger release
  • DeQuervain’s release
  • Cubital tunnel release
  • And several other hand and wrist surgeries

Meet Our Specialists

ryan burklund2Dr. Ryan Burklund, a fellowship-trained pain medicine specialist, will perform interventional pain management procedures at the new surgery center. Dr. Burklund earned his medical degree from The University of Arizona College of Medicine and completed his residency in Anesthesiology at The University of Arizona, followed by a Pain Medicine Fellowship at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. "We are committed to advancing the field of pain management by using the latest techniques and technologies," says Dr. Burklund. "Our goal is to help patients regain their quality of life and reduce their dependence on medications through precise, minimally invasive procedures. The opening of this new surgery center allows us to provide these vital services to even more patients in the Spokane Valley community." 

Sestero BG 4Dr. Anthony Sestero, a fellowship-trained orthopaedic hand surgeon, will perform WALANT hand and wrist surgeries. Dr. Sestero earned his medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, followed by the Mary S. Stern Hand Surgery Fellowship at Hand Surgery Specialists, Inc., in Cincinnati, Ohio. Dr. Sestero shares, "I am thrilled to bring the WALANT technique to our new Ambulatory Surgery Center. WALANT surgery offers numerous benefits, including reduced risk of complications, faster recovery times, lowered costs, and the ability for patients to remain awake and comfortable throughout the procedure. The new surgery center is the only one of its kind in the region, providing cutting-edge hand and wrist surgeries in a patient-friendly environment. This advancement underscores our commitment to improving patient outcomes and accessibility to high-quality orthopedic care."
